INJURY VIBES involves international collaboration using data from six large injury cohort studies (NSCOT, VSTR, VOTOR, UKBOI, DIPS and POIS) to evaluate the Global Burden of Disease methods for determining the disability associated with injury. These studies are the largest and most contemporary cohort studies addressing health related quality of life and function after injury.
Data from more than 40,000 injured participants have been pooled from these studies and are being systematically analysed to inform and improve the measurement of non-fatal injury burden. The analyses undertaken will evaluate current methods of calculating injury burden, address issues specific to injury and identify improved methods for burden estimates.
The INJURY VIBES protocol has now been published in Injury Prevention and is available here (doi 10.1136/injuryprev-2013-040936)
